Dear Floria PIRG member,
Between partisan attack ads, election machine errors, disenfranchisement of voters and candidate coffers full of large campaign contributions, there is plenty of cause for disgust with the political process.
That’s why I’m so encouraged by the work that our New Voters Project is doing to ensure that thousands of young voters, many of whom have never voted before, will flock to the polls this coming November.
If we are going to change the current political reality, then we need to engage all citizens in the process. The New Voters Project is a nonpartisan effort to register young people to vote. It is guided by the belief that democracy is strongest when citizens participate, and that, for too long, young people have been less than full participants.
The hard work of our youth organizers is already paying off. During the Florida primary in January, we saw the youth vote more than triple over 2000 levels, and this figure is sure to grow.
But ongoing efforts like these would never be possible without the support of our members. Thank you for believing, as we do, that change is possible, and that we can make it happen.
Sincerely,
Brad Ashwell
