Transportation is the main reason for our dependence on oil and makes up a huge portion of our global warming pollution; a lack of alternative options for transportation has led to worsening traffic. Unfortunately, plans for more and better public transportation languish on the drawing board because powerful developers and road-building lobbies have convinced the government to spend nine times more on highway subsidies than on transit since 1956.
Thanks to your calls and e-mails, Congress send a major product
safety overhaul bill to the president's desk. Among other provisions,
the bill requires manufacturers to inspect toys and bans lead and
phthalates from childrens' products.
AT&T has agreed to repay
customers $10 million for ring-tone charges that were advertised as
being free. Florida PIRG's Brad Ashwell (right) stood with state Attorney General
Bill McCollum in March as the deal was announced.
